Before the #24 Ranked Huskies went out and took care of #30
MIT 8-1, they said goodbye to three Seniors during the final
home game of the 2006-2007 season. Mike Prince, Steve Portela,
and Tim Heneroty all graduate this spring and were honored
tonight for their dedication to the Husky Squash program.
Being only the third year in the history of Husky Squash,
this was a night of new traditions for the program. The first
tradition created was honoring the seniors at their final
home match with a plaque highlighting their career(click
to view plaque) .
The second tradition created was the awarding of one of our
new Team Awards. The MVP, Most Improved, Rookie Award, etc
will be awarded at the end of the season, but the Leadership
Award was given out on Senior Night. To preserve the memory
of the dedication of Mike Prince and Steve Portela to the
Husky Squash Program, Coach Smith created the "Mike Prince
and Steve Portela Leadership Award" that will be given
annually to the member(s) of the squash team that have shown
the most leadership on and off the court. The first two recipients
were of course Prince and Portela who did not know the award
was being named after them. (click
