In the last home game of the season, and the
last home game for the Seniors, the Husky Squash team took
to the court against #31 ranked Fordham. Using a 4 court system
with 12 matches to play, the first two rounds of play didn't
start out so strong for the Huskies. Fresh off his injury
2 weeks ago, #3 James Birkins took the first game but couldn't
keep pace and dropped his match 3-1. #6 Clayton Quarrels went
up easily 2-0 and 5-2 in the 3rd but struggled to close out
his match which he eventually loss 3-2 and 10-8 in the fifth.
Darius Wilsey at #9 provided the lone spark early in the match
with a 3-0 win. 2-1 Fordham at that point.
Next up #8 Senior Dave Franco was out matched in a tight battle
that put Fordham up 3-1 and close to taking down the Huskies.
But then to the amazement of everyone in the building, the
Huskies took over and rattled off win after win. #2 Tim Heneroty,
#4 Steve Portela, #5 Adam Bolduc, #7 Mike Prince, and #1 Chris
Birkins all won their matches to give the Huskies to give
the Huskies the 6-3 win.
The match gives the Huskies their first win in the history
of the program. It will also prove to help things to come
as this weekend the team is hosting some of their accepted
recruits who got to witness the exciting night.
